summer loving...
Why is that song in my head? When I was young, I spent an entire summer watching Grease, over and over again... several times a day, almost every day of summer. I'm surprised my babysitter didn't go batty, but come to think of it, she didn't spend much time in the living room with me, I wonder why.
- 1. Big moment - Elenya's umbilical cord came off June 14th at 12 days old.
- 2. Can we say cute dork - Pulling her own hair, she gets a handful, and yanks, then screams bloody murder until we pry her hands off her head. Goober.
- 3. Woot!! - I was able to fit my pre-pregnancy jeans on after 2 weeks post partum. Still have weight to lose, and need to tone up, cause it still ain't pretty, but at least I have cute jeans to wear again.
- 4. Reality check - Nothing like a new baby to make you realize how big your other kids really are.
- 5. First Restaurant - Applebees on Father's Day
- 6. Baby's make the funniest, strangest, and cutest noises when stretching and sleeping.
- 7. I've changed enough diapers already to last me a lifetime, is that all they do? oh wait, she eats a lot too. Come to think of it, that may be the culprit.
- 8. Sweet mornings: She woke up the other morning just cranking her head back to look at my face with those big blue/gray orbs, way too sweet!
- 9. Kids may not know the meaning of "just a second", but babies really don't
- 10. Random fact - I make the cutest babies in the world. Nope, not bias at all. ;)
Golly does giving birth make you feel fabulous! An instant weight loss, and all those other ailments disappear, insomnia is replaced by a waking baby, waddling is gone, and while you feel great over that instant loss, eventually you go back to feeling ick... because you still have weight to lose, and in the current case it's summer, hot and sticky... bleh. I suddenly have this desire to bake again and be in the kitchen; I'm just hoping it will branch out to making dinners again, I've been in the longest slump for the desire to do that, goes all the way back to September.
My Dad and family came in town to meet Elenya. We visited them at the campground, it was nice to get the enjoyment of the fire, smores, and fireflies, without putting up a tent. Dad is talking of camping here in celebration of his birthday this July, and then we'd head out there too. Same with some other family, so hopefully it all works out to go with someone to camp this summer. New babies are truly easier to camp with, it's next summer we might have to skip, depending on Elenya's personality. Once they become mobile it can be stressful keeping them put and away from the fire. I'd like to take the kids to the Brookfield Zoo too, since it's been awhile and I think they may enjoy it on a different level now.
Other than that, and my uncle getting married this September in TN, no big plans. The entire family is heading down for the wedding though, and as of now I'm planning to make the trek, especially since I have a vehicle that can survive the drive with no question, a first in my life. Ari was asking about all the different cars we've had, sure were a lot of ugly ones, lol.
Dad was pretty excited about her (he's so cute!), said she was a mini lyndsey, how sweet is that? You know having four kids, it's nice when you hear once in a while that your own child looks like YOUR child, instead of some unrelated person...

Look at that sweet baby face, how can you not just love her to pieces!

A few known things about Miss Pickle - she likes to eat, she thinks her hands are tasty, swaddling is the way to get her to sleep, and she absolutely, without any qualms, lets me know that she hates her car seat with a vengeance. I told her she had better get used to it, she's going to spend the next 8 years of her life in one or another.

First finished knit since Miss Pickle got here, Marisol at Over the Moon. Nice shirt, was supposed to fit Miss P in a few months, and fits Aislyn.

I went out alone with all the kids on Friday, we were meeting my sisters for lunch after her appointment, and I was told TJ Maxx sold somethings I needed at a good price, so I thought I'd check it out. It actually went well, I won't be heading to TJ again, though the kids really like all the discount toys, so maybe in that regards, but they don't need more toys, really. But they had Rachael Ray pots and pans, in Orange! How sweet is that!?!

I didn't buy any, cause I know that I can usually get a better price online, with free shipping, from someone, plus I like to read reviews. I ordered some books from amazon, they are having a 4 for 3 deal (includes books, movies, kitchen), I took advantage of it for Christmas too. I got some knitting books that the local library does not have, a present for my sil, (late, but I didn't know what book to complete the package with), and then some novels for bedtime stories. On it's way to me is: Ramona the Pest, Into the Land of the Unicorns, Adorable Knits for Tots, Clementine, Kids Learn to Knit, Vogue Knitting Stitchionary Volume One, Song of the Wanderer, Judy Moody Gets Famous!
I'm not the best at taking photos currently. Went to a graduation party on Saturday and it was the first time they were all meeting Elenya, and the camera sat unused in the diaper bag. Almost same story when my Dad was here, but they did get a lot of nice photos, so I'm hoping they remember to send some my way.
My youngest sister of the bunch, Ari and her are great friends.

perfect timing
Why is it that as soon as I get the baby to sleep - she dirties her diaper... leaving the dilemma of waking her or leaving her in a dirty diaper.
Or as soon as my food is done cooking, she wakes up.
Or as soon as I go to take a shower, she wakes up.
It matters not when I plan my meals or my showers around her sleeping, she will wake up from a normal 3-4 hour nap early, just so my food can get cold, and my hair half washed. ;)
Not complaining, just thinking that babies have some sort of distinct timing.
too much weather
I am not feeling midwest love for weather this year, too much snow, too cold, too much rain, too many tornadoes. We have a lot of flooding around these parts, thankfully the weather is supposed to be nice today and tomorrow, and hopefully the rest of the rain forecasted takes a hiatus. ;) Took a few photos of the local flooding.
This is in the field near us

Photo of levee, standing on one side looking to the other side. Side we are standing on is leaking into the neighborhood and across the main road, photos below.

Neighborhood next to leaking levee.

Spillage across main road.

It was kind of strange, we had all of these flood warnings, but paid no heed. I mean seriously, how many times have we had flood warnings and never seen more than a backed up sewer. Driving can be a hassle now with some main roads closed, downtowns in both areas are closed, I need to figure out if I'll get fines for my library books, lol.
I start daycare again on Monday, the two weeks off have been sooo nice. My swelling has finally gone down, and I am no longer miserable! Pregnancy weight is coming off, and I am feeling good. I've also come to realize how warped I am when pregnant, my house is FREEZING! Where as before, I was wearing shorts with a tank top, and SWEATING! So glad to be going back to normal!
And the little miss... well she is absolutely perfect, too cute for words, she sleeps great, nurses great, and loves to be snuggled and look around. I spend every available moment cuddling up to that baby girl, my last newborn. *sniff* I don't *want* another one, but it's sad knowing it's my last one, and knowing just how fast it goes by.
She went to her first baseball game last night, got to meet my friend, and spent the evening sucking on my shoulder lol. I'd say she enjoyed herself. I wish I had brought my camera, but we thought the game would be canceled with all the flooding, but the field had no flooding, so we rushed out the door (not easy with a newborn)!
an abundance of photos:

wearing her sweater, whew, so glad it fit!

"meeting" her up close for the first time

Me and the kids have been watching the Harry Potter movies, since it's been raining like crazy, and I was recovering from the surgery, we have one movie left to watch, and it's been nice snuggling with all my kids watching the flicks. Not something we usually do in the warmer months, Miss Elenya has given us a slower schedule, which is nice after the mania that surrounded preparation for her arrival.
So overall doing well, really well.

Introducing Miss Pickle
Elenya
7lbs. 14oz.
21 1/4 inches
1:36 pm
born at 38weeks, 5 days

Thank you to everyone for their prayers and thoughts for the delivery, I didn't feel a thing! I lost a lot of blood during the surgery and after, which would of been scary if I didn't have Elenya next to my face, fussing in my ear, so I didn't hear the doctor. I felt it afterwards though. I'm at home now, as is Miss Elenya, and we are doing well. The c-section recovery is coming along, I ended up leaving the hospital 48 hours after the surgery, it was lonesome at the hospital alone, and I missed my kids like crazy, and vice versa. At the hospital I had to force myself to be active (walking around a hospital room wasn't the most thrilling) while at home, it's the opposite and I have to force myself to relax without overdoing it.
There is so much to write that I don't hardly know where to begin, nor do I have the most time to write everything all out, which I'd like to do for my own record.
But Elenya is doing fabulously, she is a great nurser, and is so loving. She loves being swaddled with her hands by her face, and if she is fussing, all you need to do is put her on your chest and she calms right down. She looks up at me with these beautiful big eyes, and I just melt. I am so blessed.
A few photos to make the rest of you swoon.
